VideoLAN Player instructions

The VideoLAN media player is a free, open source, DVD player that can play movies without hardware overlay.
The player is reliable, contains no advertising, and will not take over your system,
but it can be a challenge to use.
Here's how to use it.

Customer Peter W. tells us the VideoLAN interface has changed from what's shown below.
The critical setting is now called Overlay video output.
1 Click Settings / Preferences.
2 In the Preferences window, click Video.
3 Uncheck Overlay video output.

1 After installing the software, and before clicking Play, turn off hardware overlay. To do that, click Settings / Preferences.

2 In the Preferences dialog, in the leftside list, click Video.
3 Checkmark Advanced options at the bottom-right corner.
4 In the Video output module list, select Windows GDI video output.
5 Click OK.

6 Here's how to play the DVD. On the main window, click the Play toolbar button.
7 In the Open dialog, click the Disc tab.
8 Click the DVD radio button.
9 Set Device name to the letter of your DVD drive, usually "D:".
10 Click OK and be patient, it takes about 30 seconds to start playing.
