Follow the instructions here to turn off global hardware acceleration.
Note, the player ignores its own setting for hardware acceleration.

WinDVD by InterVideo
WinDVD comes with a "Quick Clip" feature, but the clip is limited to "30 seconds" (16 seconds actual time in our tests), has no audio, is branded with frames promoting InterVideo,
is an uncompressed GIF file, is only 240 x 180 pixels large, and in our tests, was unreliable.
The software will not play DVDs without hardware acceleration.
